Rhyme Scheme: ABAACDA EFE GAHAAAAIJ AJAAKLLM DNOAP QKDDGRASOSA DATAUVA WWDXAJYZD AKWA KWJA KAKW OA2AVAB2

Crass rays streaming from the vestibulesA
Cafes glittering like jeweled teethB
High flung signsA
Blinking yellow phosphorescent eyesA
Girls in blackC
Circling monotonouslyD
About the orange lightsA
-
Nothing to guess atE
Save the darkness aboveF
Crouching like a great catE
-
In the dim lit squareG
Where dishevelled treesA
Tustle with the wind the wind like a scytheH
Mowing their last leavesA
Arcs shimmering through a greenish hazeA
Pale oval arcsA
Like ailing virginsA
Each out of a halo circumscribedI
Pallidly staringJ
-
Figures drift upon the benchesA
With no more rustle than a dropped leaf settlingJ
Slovenly figures like untied parcelsA
And papers wrapped about their kneesA
Huddled one to the otherK
Cringing to the windL
The sided windL
Leaving no breach untriedM
-
So many and all so stillD
The fountain slobbering its stone basinN
Is louder than TheyO
Flotsam of the five oceansA
Here on this raft of the worldP
-
This old man's headQ
Has found a woman's shoulderK
The wind juggles with her shawlD
That flaps about them like a sailD
And splashes her red faded hairG
Over the salt stubble of his chinR
A light foam is on his lipsA
As though dreams surged in himS
Breaking and ebbing awayO
And the bare boughs shuffle above himS
And the twigs rattle like diceA
-
She diffused like a broken beetleD
Sprawls without graceA
Her face gray as asphaltT
Her jaws sagging as on loosened hingesA
Shadows ply about her mouthU
Nimble shadows out of the jigging treeV
That dances above her its dance of dry bonesA
-
II-
-
A uniformed frontW
PaunchedW
A glance like a blowD
The swing of an armX
Verved vigorousA
Boot heels clankingJ
In metallic rhythmY
The blows of a batonZ
Quick staccatoD
-
There is a rustling along the benchesA
As of dried leaves raked overK
And the old man lifts a shaking palsied handW
Tucking the displaced paper about his kneesA
-
ColderK
And a frost under footW
Acid corrodingJ
Eating through worn bootsolesA
-
Drab forms blur into greenish vaporK
Through boughs like cross bonesA
Pale arcs flare and shiverK
Like lilies in a windW
-
High over BroadwayO
A far flung signA2
Glitters in indigo darknessA
And spurts again rhythmicallyV
Spraying great dropsA
Red as a hemorrhageB2
