Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGB HIDJ KLML

They line up behind each otherA
tiny but determinedB
Knowing their way without failC
A long journey uphill No verticalD

Out of the lower depthsE
Sporadically losing many in the groupF
but not always noticingG
Climbing climbing determinedB
-
Out of the depths halfway upH
A little light voices scents of hopeI
Some stop here and revelD
Others trudge onJ
-
The daylight brings satisfaction reliefK
They made itL
The breathless spaceM
The quiet peace is worth itL

Poet's note: This poem came out of seeing tiny ants that were appearing on different floors of our house. We couldn't figure out where they came from until I saw a line of them entering a wall in our basement. As I was writing it, it became metaphorical for the present tenacity of human beings in the present day.
