The Retirement Of Mars Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG

He pauses on his way and gazing backA
across the desert ways of splintered steelB
recalls the noon and sees his weary trackA
and sees the bloody imprint of his heelB
A Mars long tired he stands a noble MarsC
Stiff with the staggering day and fields hard wonD
His bruised helm is glittering with scarsC
that gleam afar and spy the setting sunD
With red plumes doffed and foe revering faceE
he moves adroop to seek the sea the wavesF
to seek the sighing winds the shades of spaceE
and rest his heart within Twilight CavesF
The dazzling axe is deep its lord abedG
The dead are lying with the friendly deadG
