The Gecko Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEFFGGHHIIJJKK LLKM| The Gecko lying on his stone | A |
| Is always very much alone | A |
| Nor is the reason hard to trace | B |
| By those who've seen its form and face | B |
| It's hard to realise a mite | C |
| Can be so venomous a sight | C |
| Or in its little frame compress | D |
| Such concentrated ugliness | E |
| Now wonder other creatures fly | F |
| Each time a Gecko ambles by | F |
| No wonder that its chosen mate | G |
| Recoils from the connubial state | G |
| Yet underneath its skin we're told | H |
| There beats a heart of purest gold | H |
| Its children do not know neglect | I |
| It treats its mother with respect | I |
| It never ever beats its wife | J |
| And lives a most unblemished life | J |
| Its aspect is its sole defence | K |
| Against the world's malevolence | K |
| So when you see a Gecko stay | L |
| Uncharitable thoughts and say | L |
| 'The gruesome are not always gross | K |
| even a reptile bears its cross ' | M |
