The Consumptive Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCDEDFEGHGHIJ

The stars the fields will know him neverA
moreB
his friends his trees the restless swerving seaC
Three days to live they said the kind gave fourB
They glide about his bed silentlyC
Twas not the lead of battle nor the shellD
the spitting of Maxim s basiliskine breathE
Twas through the falseness of the winds he fellD
the snow s mock warmth a chill His humbleF
deathE
will ne er be sung in elegy and rhymeG
his passage bloodless was unstained and stillH
It brought no stir and smiling all the timeG
He waved his last farewell behind the HillH
I saw him die with my half closed eyesI
And closing them I thought of ParadiseJ
