The Change Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFG HIHI JKJK

Last year I heard the songs of birdsA
And heard the trumpets of the beesB
I caught the winding river s wordsA
And clutched at leaves of treesB
-
I heard the gales upon the heightC
And heard each frightened windy rushD
I lay within the sultry nightC
Eaves dropping in the bushE
-
But now I walk within a townF
And hear the slyness of its feetG
Great cruel things stride up and downF
Within a shady streetG
-
I see quick things with ugly nailsH
And hear their low half smothered criesI
I hear men tell strange trembling talesH
With big beseeching eyesI
-
I do not hear the singing boughJ
I hear soft murders in a laneK
I do not feel the bush call nowJ
I feel my brother s painK
