The Burial: In Memory Of W.l.e. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG

What task is this that so unnerves me nowA
When pity should be dead and has been deadB
Unloose that sheet from round the pierced browA
What matter blood is seen for blood is redB
And red s the colour of the clammy earthC
Be not so solemn There s no need to prayD
But rather smile yea laugh If pure thy mirthC
Is right He laughed himself but yesterdayD
That pay book Take it from him Ours a debtE
No gold can ever pay That cross of woodF
About his neck That must remain and yetE
He needs it no because his heart was goodF
We ll house him neath those broken shrubs dig deepG
He s tired God knows and needs a little sleepG
