Poppies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGFG

Some scarlet poppies lay upon our rightA
He watched them through his periscope all dayB
He watched then all the day but in the nightA
They seemed to pass awayB
-
They came again much redder with the mornC
And still he gazed and strangely longed to roamD
Among their savage splendour in the cornC
And ponder on his homeD
-
But when the charge was done they found himE
thereF
Deep in the redness where he d made his standG
With withered poppies in his twisted hairF
And poppies in his handG
