Oh I am lonely by a desert palmB
And dreaming dreaming on the sands of thoughtC
Oh come to me from out the voiceless calmB
And teach me what the Nile has left untaughtC
-
Bring to me a draught of Southern wineD
The perfume of the near forgotten roseE
Then let me drink beside some ancient shrineD
And drinking let my tired eyelids closeF
-
Come near to me The fast night hours are fewG
For every hour is fast when moons are clearH
Scatter from my hair the desert dewG
And lilt sweet Arab love songs in my earI
-
Unloose the twilight hair about thy headC
And listen to the waters deep and slowJ
For we are dreaming with the dreaming deadC
Dreaming where the flowers of Isis blowJ
-
Look not to where those eagles fiercely fightC
Let peace alone be on the ancient bedC
Unbare thy beauty to the Egypt nightC
And stay with me till Egypt s dawn in redC
-
Then leave me when the bird of night has flownK
And touch my lips before the night moon sinksL
I ll ponder by these pyramids of stoneK
And sit within the shadow of the SphinxL
