Rhyme Scheme: ABCABC DEFGEH IJKILK| Beside the doors of a keen lighted hall | A |
| I paused and quite by chance | B |
| I noticed Love | C |
| Smiling and tall | A |
| And then I heard the whirling dance | B |
| And saw the dismal skies above | C |
| - | |
| She called to me to know her yet again | D |
| And know her pale sad friend | E |
| Solemn with tears | F |
| Her friend was Pain | G |
| I moved away but in the end | E |
| Returned fearing the empty years | H |
| - | |
| And I who thought to scoff and had so planned | I |
| I took Love s fevered arm | J |
| And felt Pain s breath | K |
| I took Love s hand | I |
| And kissed its shining palm | L |
| And saw beyond the silent face of Death | K |
