Disobedience Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDF GHGH IJIJ KEKE LCLC MNMN

An iambic octameter poem of alternate end rhymesA
-
In ancient days when Eden bloomedB
And life was cleanly pure and fairC
The serpent sly with tongue perfumedB
Deceived with subtle lure and snareC
-
For God had warned of fruit to shunD
A tree desired of knowledge direE
But Satan's words like honey spunD
Lit Adam's lustful mortal fireF
-
So took disobedience its holdG
And quickly sin came rushing inH
As man with pride and greed untoldG
Embraced so vile a forbidden sinH
-
So let us now from Adam's fateI
Give heed to our creator's voiceJ
Lest we like him succumb to hateI
And make the gravest wrong our choiceJ
-
As worldly lusts engender prideK
And man's angsty desires aspireE
We preach our own gospel asideK
From our Christ's divine inspireE
-
For truthless gains we exploit the flockL
Whom we should feed with loving careC
As Ezekiel's words like a shockL
Remind us to indeed bewareC
-
Let us turn from this path of shameM
And seek the gospel's righteous wayN
For in obedience lies the fameM
That shines with all heavenly rayN
