Town Owl Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHCIJFKLMNOCPC QRSC

On eves of cold when slow coal firesA
rooted in basements burn and branchB
brushing with smoke the city airC
When quartered moons pale in the skyD
and neons glow along the darkE
like deadly nightshade on a briarF
Above the muffled traffic thenG
I hear the owl and at his noteH
I shudder in my private chairC
For like an auger he has comeI
to roost among our crumbling wallsJ
his blooded talons sheathed in furF
Some secret lure of time it seemsK
has called him from his country wastesL
to hunt a newer wasteland hereM
And where the candlabra swungN
bright with the dancers thousand eyesO
now his black hooded pupils stareC
And where the silk shoed lovers ranP
with dust of diamonds in their hairC
he opens now his silent wingQ
And like a stroke of doom drops downR
and swoops across the empty hallS
and plucks a quick mouse off the stairC
