The Farewell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDF GHGH DIDI DJDJ KLK MNMO OPPP QPQP RDRD

BENT o'er his sabre torrents startingA
From his dim eyes the bold hussarB
Thus greets his cherish'd maid while partingA
For distant fields of warC
-
'Weep not my fair one O forbear theeD
No anguish can those tears removeE
For by my troth and beard I swear theeD
Time shall not change my loveF
-
'That love shall bloom a deathless blossomG
My shield in fight with sword in handH
And thou my Lila in my bosomG
What shall that sword withstandH
-
'Weep not my fair one O forbear theeD
Those tears can bid no grief departI
And were I faithless Maid I swear theeD
Anguish would tear my heartI
-
'Then my good steed would sure betray meD
And falter in the battle frayJ
In peril's hours refuse t' obey meD
My stirrup would give wayJ
-
'The sword my valour's proudest tokenK
When grasp'd like rotten wood would breakL
And I should seek thee spirit brokenK
Death's paleness on my cheek '-
-
But the false horseman's steed obey'd himM
Gentle and eager still his swordN
Bright and unbroken ne'er betray'd himM
Though he broke oath and wordO
-
The tale of love the tears which shower'dO
From Lila's eye were all forgotP
The rose wreath faded pale deflower'dP
Such buds re blossom notP
-
That maiden's breast of peace he riflesQ
Then hies him to another's breastP
Man's oaths to woman are but triflesQ
And love itself a jestP
-
He serves secures and then he slights themR
His vows are change and treacheryD
For laughing Cupid's arrow writes themR
Upon the shifting seaD
