Mephistopheles Perverted Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCDEDEFGFGHIHIJKJ KLBLMOr Goethe for the Times | A |
ONCE long ago lived a Flea | B |
Who kept such a fine fat King | C |
Not that he held with royalty | B |
But more for the appearance of the thing | C |
And gave his Majesty to hold | D |
Such pageantries are far too few | E |
A sword of ruby hilted gold | D |
That possibly might hack a cheese in two | E |
But lest this glory might begin | F |
To prove the regency too far | G |
His thunderbolt they made of tin | F |
And changed his godship for another Star | G |
Thus when the Monarch drove abroad | H |
With stars like buttons round his chest | I |
God fearing Fleas would all applaud | H |
And alien Lice be grudgingly impressed | I |
Such relics every Flea must flaunt | J |
If only as the final trump | K |
That mocks Materialism's taunt | J |
Proving there's more in life than Suck and Jump | K |
Once long ago but not so long | L |
A King went curing scrofula | B |
The chorus of this charming song | L |
I'm told reliably is Ha Ha Ha | M |
