La Dame Du Palais De La Reine Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABACCBCDDEEFFEFGGBG HHBHEEEEBBEB

SOPHIE in shocks of scarlet laceA
Receives her usual embraceA
Beneath a hedge behind a curtainB
Or in the chambers of His GraceA
Whether a kiss be worth the careC
Five minions wasted on her hairC
Sophie herself is half uncertainB
Paused in adorable despairC
When past beseeching Man she floatsD
In golden coasted petticoatsD
A shaft of irritation passesE
Like colic but with antidotesE
Then serious doubts occur of LoveF
That spoils the Peacock sours the DoveF
And mixes up the lower classesE
So hopelessly with those aboveF
Is the bird Passion worth the limeG
Can the small Amor turn to crimeG
By ruining skirts and the digestionB
Such problems occupy her timeG
But often these objections thawH
To counts with viols or grooms with strawH
And Sophie giving up the questionB
Bends to some strange but natural lawH
With books of music diamond ringsE
Spaniels and roses fireworks swingsE
Her lovers come But Sophie sighsE
Whose thoughts are fixed on Higher ThingsE
Between the sleepy kisses givenB
Her mind by grave debate is drivenB
Perplexity distracts those eyesE
Which lovers vow are lost in HeavenB
