| Went AWOL on his family | H |
| Leaving us better yet leaving him behind | I |
| The only memory of him is a letter | J |
| From a court ordered payment and | K |
| Photographs of distant memories | L |
| Foggy but yet not forgotten | M |

| My memories were years short | N |
| One year shy of beginning manhood | O |
| My changes coming naturally | H |
| With an absent man in my life physically | H |

| I use to walk around | P |

| I ain't got no daddy | H |
| He was absent from my life | R |
| And now I'm absent from his life | R |
| The images of him follow me | H |
| like a mirror it's like right there | S |
| Starring back at me | H |
| Unaware that image of him | T |
| Is that very image of me | H |
| But only only in the younger self | U |

| Something my wise grandma told me | H |
| That stuck with me all my days | V |
| All my years even until now | W |
| That no matter what he's still your daddy | H |
| Deep in my heart there was anger | J |
| Anger toward him for leaving me | H |
| Going AWOL on your family | H |
| At any giving moment even in my lifetime | C |
| Yet that anger was still there | S |
| Grandma's words echoed deep inside my soul | X |
| And ringing in my ears so loud | Y |
| Until I wonder if her words are true | Z |
