In a poem one line may hide another lineA
As at a crossing one train may hide another trainB
That is if you are waiting to crossC
The tracks wait to do it for one moment atD
Least after the first train is gone And so when you readE
Wait until you have read the next lineA
Then it is safe to go on readingF
In a family one sister may conceal anotherG
So when you are courting it's best to have them all in viewH
Otherwise in coming to find one you may love anotherG
One father or one brother may hide the manI
If you are a woman whom you have been waiting to loveJ
So always standing in front of something the otherG
As words stand in front of objects feelings and ideasK
One wish may hide another And one person's reputation may hideL
The reputation of another One dog may conceal anotherG
On a lawn so if you escape the first one you're not necessarily safeM
One lilac may hide another and then a lot of lilacs and on the AppiaN
Antica one tombO
May hide a number of other tombs In love one reproach may hide anotherG
One small complaint may hide a great oneP
One injustice may hide another one colonial may hide anotherG
One blaring red uniform another and another a whole column One bathQ
may hide another bathQ
As when after bathing one walks out into the rainB
One idea may hide another Life is simpleR
Hide Life is incredibly complex as in the prose of Gertrude SteinA
One sentence hides another and is another as well And in the laboratoryS
One invention may hide another inventionP
One evening may hide another one shadow a nest of shadowsT
One dark red or one blue or one purple this is a paintingF
By someone after Matisse One waits at the tracks until they passU
These hidden doubles or sometimes likenesses One identical twinV
May hide the other And there may be even more in there The obstetricianP
Gazes at the Valley of the Var We used to live there my wife and I butW
One life hid another life And now she is gone and I am hereX
A vivacious mother hides a gawky daughter The daughter hidesY
Her own vivacious daughter in turn They are inV
A railway station and the daughter is holding a bagZ
Bigger than her mother's bag and successfully hides itA2
In offering to pick up the daughter's bag one finds oneself confronted byB2
the mother'sC2
And has to carry that one too So one hitchhikerG
May deliberately hide another and one cup of coffeeS
Another too until one is over excited One love may hide another loveJ
or the same loveJ
As when I love you suddenly rings false and one discoversC2
The better love lingering behind as when I'm full of doubtsD2
Hides I'm certain about something and it is thatD
And one dream may hide another as is well known always too In theN
Garden of EdenP
Adam and Eve may hide the real Adam and EveE2
Jerusalem may hide another JerusalemF2
When you come to something stop to let it passU
So you can see what else is there At home no matter whereG2
Internal tracks pose dangers too one memoryS
Certainly hides another that being what memory is all aboutH2
The eternal reverse succession of contemplated entities ReadingF
A Sentimental Journey look aroundI2
When you have finished for Tristram Shandy to seeS
If it is standing there it should be strongerG
And more profound and theretofore hidden as Santa Maria MaggioreG
May be hidden by similar churches inside Rome One sidewalkJ2
May hide another as when you're asleep there andK2
One song hide another song a pounding upstairsL2
Hide the beating of drums One friend may hide another you sit at theN
foot of a treeG
With one and when you get up to leave there is anotherG
Whom you'd have preferred to talk to all along One teacherG
One doctor one ecstasy one illness one woman one manI
May hide another Pause to let the first one passU
You think Now it is safe to cross and you are hit by the next one ItA2
can be importantM2
To have waited at least a moment to see what was already thereG
