The Wild Geese Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EBEB DCDC FGHG IDID

Wild geese fly overheadA
In the wild Autumn weatherB
Souls of the newly deadA
Crying and flying togetherB
-
Home from the last great fightC
The souls of the Irish farin'D
With a wild heart in the nightC
A grey eye turned to ErinD
-
High and high in the skyE
From the red fields of slaughterB
Ever they fly and cryE
For the brown bog the grey waterB
-
Wild geese in the wild evenD
Steady and strong their flightC
Their beds are made in HeavenD
All of the down whiteC
-
They have forgone that blissF
Till they have seen once moreG
The little land of peaceH
Green and bright as of yoreG
-
High o'er the sheep and cattleI
The bogs and the mountains loneD
The souls new home from the battleI
Cry their love and are flownD
