Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGH IJIJ KLML NONO PQP RJSJ

Straight to his death he wentA
A smile on his lipsB
All his life's joy unspentA
Into eclipseB
-
The song of the shell he heardC
Cleaving the darkD
As though 'twere the song of a birdC
Linnet or larkD
-
-
Why would he go so fastE
Out to the deadF
All in a heavenly hasteG
Not to be stayedH
-
What did he see afarI
That drew him afterJ
Light from a merry starI
Singing and laughterJ
-
Nay but a face was hisK
Only in dreamsL
Only in dreams of blissM
In the star gleamsL
-
Nay but a face that watchedN
Long years to seeO
Who came by the door unlatchedN
If it were heO
-
What was the voice beforeP
That lured him onQ
'Oh thou long hungered forP
My son my son '-
-
Lo he hath heard hath seenR
He hath slipped overJ
Where the great days beginS
For friend and loverJ
