The Open Road Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGF HAGA EIJK GALA MNGO APGP QDRB MSQS PATA

THE roads of the SeaA
Are thronged with merchantmenB
East and West North and SouthC
They go and come againD
-
All precious merchandiseE
They bear in their holdF
Lest the people be starvingG
In the night and coldF
-
Now tell me good merchantsH
How this thing can beA
That the white ships are throngingG
The roads of the seaA
-
For there's death in the skiesE
And there's death on the earthI
And men talked of famineJ
And a frozen hearthK
-
Yet the ships they go crowdingG
The roads of the seaA
They bring home their treasuresL
To you and to meA
-
O listen good peopleM
And hearing praise GodN
That the watch dogs are keepingG
The ships on their roadO
-
They sit watchful and steadyA
Where the North winds blowP
Sleepless they are keepingG
The roads the ships goP
-
In the day in the hourQ
They will spring until thenD
Their eyes keep the coursesR
Of the merchantmenB
-
Forget not good peopleM
When ye heap the white boardS
When ye draw to the hearth fireQ
To praise the LordS
-
That the watch dogs unsleepingP
Keep the roads of the SeaA
Up by the Northern LightsT
Where the great ships beA
