Rhyme Scheme: ABA CBC ADA EDE

They lifted up his weary headA
Stained with a dark and bitter dewB
'How does the battle go ' he saidA
-
Sir it is victory ' when he heardC
He smiled the darkening shadows throughB
And died as blithe as a singing birdC
-
On the stained grass as on a bedA
Dying he lay and well contentD
'Sir it is victory ' they saidA
-
So smiling smiling all the wayE
To the undying Dead he wentD
As to a heavenly holidayE
