He is not dead They do not knowA
Who pity her her secret easeB
How he is near her how they goA
Her hand in hisC

The last sad parting now is doneD
She can look back as from afarE
And pity her whose dearest oneD
Went to the WarF

Now he is with her every dayG
There is no salt dividing seaH
She leans on him in the old wayG
Her staff is heH
-
The folk as they come in and outI
Wonder at her pale joy the whileJ
She in the lightest fear or doubtI
Turns to his smileJ
