The End Of The Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE DFDF GHIH

The night darkens fast the shadows darkenA
Clouds the rain gather about mine houseB
Only the wood dove moans hearken O hearkenA
The moan of the wood dove in the rain wet boughsC
-
Loneliness the night The night is lonelyD
Star covered the night takes to a tender breastE
Wrapping them in her veil these dark hours onlyD
The weary the bereaved the dispossessedE
-
When will it lighten Once the night was kindlyD
Nor all her hours went by leaden longF
Now in mine house the hours go groping blindlyD
After the shiver of dawn the first bird's songF
-
Sleep now The night with wings of splendour sweptG
Hides heavy eyes from light that they may sleepH
Soft secure under her gaze so tenderI
Lest they should wake to weep should wake to weepH
