Thou Who wert kindest of the kindA
Since out of sight is out of mindA
There's none to do Thee kindnessesB
In Thy last anguish and distressB
Thou art left all alone aloneC
Where are Thy faithful lovers flownC
-
Where is the multitude that fedD
With loaves and fishes comfort dE
The blind Thou mad'st to see the lameF
That walked the one leper who cameF
Of nine made clean The dumb that spokeG
Where are they all Thy loving folkG
-
How is it they have naught to sayB
Where's Lazarus risen from the clayB
Where is the widow of Nain whereH
Jairus's daughter small and fairH
Judas has sold Thee to Thy foesB
And Peter weeps while the cock crowsB
-
Simon will help Thee on Thy roadI
Unwillingly ah Lamb of GodJ
Thou bearest the world's weight up that hillK
And none to help Thee with good willK
Stumbling and falling while Thy hurtL
Makes for the rabble noble sportM
-
But yet there's balm in GileadN
For here's His Mother sweet and sadO
Here's Magdalen weeping and with themP
The women of JerusalemQ
They have run all the way since oneR
Brought them the news He's not aloneC
-
Veronica is nothing lothS
To wipe His poor face with her clothT
His Mother's by Him and St JohnU
With many a starry legionR
Magdalen's hair is round His feetV
Her tears wash off the blood and sweatW
-
Thou Who wert kindest of the kindA
Though out of sight be out of mindA
Thou art not forgot by land and seaE
The broken hearts come home to TheeE
And bear Thine anguish and Thy griefX
Till the Third Day shall bring reliefX
