The Dead Coach Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDEE FFGH IIJJ KKLL MMNN

At night when sick folk wakeful lieA
I heard the dead coach passing byA
And heard it passing wild and fleetB
And knew my time was come not yetC
-
Click clack click clack the hoofs went pastD
Who takes the dead coach travels fastD
On and away through the wild nightE
The dead must rest ere morning lightE
-
If one might follow on its trackF
The coach and horses midnight blackF
Within should sit a shape of doomG
That beckons one and all to comeH
-
God pity them to night who waitI
To hear the dead coach at their gateI
And him who hears though sense be dimJ
The mournful dead coach stop for himJ
-
He shall go down with a still faceK
And mount the steps and take his placeK
The door be shut the order saidL
How fast the pace is with the deadL
-
Click clack click clack the hour is chillM
The dead coach climbs the distant hillM
Now God the Father of us allN
Wipe Thou the widow s tears that fallN
