As up and down I fare by road and street | B |
The mothers of our men at arms I meet | B |
Who die for mine and me | C |
That we go safe and free | C |
Sit in the sun sleep soft and find life sweet | B |
- | |
I have two sons too young to fight too young | D |
God grant if my hour comes I may be strong | E |
And caught in such a strait | F |
May praise God and be great | F |
Giving my sons to save some woman from wrong | E |
Oh mothers of dead heroes ye I know | G |
My heart sends you a greeting soft and low | G |
Blessed are ye whose sons | H |
Amid the ransomed ones | H |
Throng to the banners of Heaven as white as snow | G |
- | |
Somehow by some secret and certain sign | I |
The mothers of the beloved I divine | I |
Who died in my sons' place | J |
My heart kneels and gives grace | J |
Gives thanks for you for you proud sisters of mine | I |
