Mater Dei Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABA CDCDC EFECE GHGHG

She looked to east she looked to westA
Her eyes unfathomable mildB
That saw both worlds came home to restA
Home to her own sweet childB
God's golden head was at her breastA
-
What need to look o'er land and seaC
What could the winged ships bring to herD
What gold or gems of price might beC
Ivory or miniverD
Since God Himself lay on her kneeC
-
What could th' intense blue heaven keepE
To draw her eyes and thoughts so highF
All heaven was where her Boy did leapE
Where her foot quietlyC
Went rocking the dear God asleepE
-
The angel folk fared up and downG
A Jacob's Ladder hung betweenH
Her quiet chamber and God's TownG
She saw unawed sereneH
Since God Himself played by her gownG
