Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD AAAAEFGF ADADHIHI CACAGJGK

Aye sure it does always be rainin'A
An' the hay lyin' out in the wetB
But what's the good o' complainin'A
It never made things better yetB
There'll be musty hay in the mangerC
The cow's goin' dry be mischanceD
And the boy that went for a RangerC
Is lost on us somewhere in FranceD
-
The father of him it's heart breakin'A
Wid a watery glint o' the sunA
It's out wid him turnin' an' shakin'A
Then all the labour's undoneA
There won't be much savin' in ConnaughtE
The winter'll be hungry and blackF
But I wouldn't waste sorrow upon itG
If only the boy could come backF
-
There's a terrible cloud over NephinA
An' the rain rushin' up from the sayD
Och what if the hay is past savin'A
I wouldn't be mindin' the hayD
'Tis the loss of the boy's bent me doubleH
An' the poor ould man is as badI
I'm starvin' for him an' the troubleH
The trouble's heavy and sadI
-
God's good and He'll send better weatherC
The sun'll be shinin' againA
If Pat and me was togetherC
I wouldn't be mindin' the rainA
No matter what weather was in itG
I wouldn't care if he'd comeJ
But the heart o' me's cryin' this minitG
For the boy that'll never come homeK
