Flower Of Youth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCD EFEFGG HIHIJJ KLMMNN OMOMP

LEST Heaven be thronged with grey beards hoaryA
God who made boys for His delightB
Stoops in a day of grief and gloryA
And calls them in in from the nightB
When they come trooping from the warC
Our skies have many a new gold starD
-
Heaven's thronged with gay and careless facesE
New waked from dreams of dreadful thingsF
They walk in green and pleasant placesE
And by the crystal water springsF
Who dreamt of dying and the slainG
And the fierce thirst and the strong painG
-
Dear boys They shall be young for everH
The Son of God was once a boyI
They run and leap by a clear riverH
And of their youth they have great joyI
God who made boys so clean and goodJ
Smiles with the eyes of fatherhoodJ
-
Now Heaven is by the young invadedK
Their laughter's in the House of GodL
Stainless and simple as He made itM
God keeps the heart o' the boy unflawedM
The old wise Saints look on and smileN
They are so young and without guileN
-
Oh if the sonless mothers weepingO
And widowed girls could look insideM
The glory that hath them in keepingO
Who went to the Great War and diedM
They would rise and put their mourning offP
And say 'Thank God he has enough '-
