Epiphany: (for Dora, 1918) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IBIB

She carried frankincense and goldA
When the Star guided herB
And in her folded hands so coldA
She carried myrrhB
-
Frankincense for the praise she owedC
Gold for her gift was meetD
But myrrh because so oft her roadC
Was bitter sweetD
-
Lay her tired body in that earthE
Was holy to her mindF
But the bird soul flies in high mirthE
Borne on the windF
-
It tosses in the Irish skiesG
Awhile so small and whiteH
Ere it is gone swiftly it fliesG
Into the lightH
-
She has gone in with the Three KingsI
In silk and miniverB
The gold the frankincense she bringsI
The sharp sweet myrrhB
