Alienation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDD EEFFGG HHIIHH JJK BB HH

For the first time since he was bornA
Her son her rose without a thornA
They are at variance they who wereB
Always such closest friends and dearC
Another face is in his dreamsD
Under the sunbeams and moonbeamsD
-
In his changed glances she discoversE
Something some chill between two loversE
Something of fear and oh it hurtsF
But shall not Love have its desertsF
And win forgiveness though she stillG
Sets her poor will against his willG
-
For all day long the battle callsH
And in the quiet evenfallsH
And in the night which else is dumbI
He hears the bugle and the drumI
And the wild longing in him stirsH
For the fierce battle He's not hersH
-
But she her hidden way will keepJ
Striving against him even in sleepJ
Praying against him loud and lowK
'Pity me so he may not go '-
Calling on Heaven that it conspireB
Against him and his heart's desireB
-
God pity mothers when their sonsH
Grow cold that were their little onesH
