A Prayer { For Those Who Shall Return} Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFG HIHIJJ JKJKLL

LORD when they come back againA
From the dreadful battlefieldB
To the common ways of menA
Be Thy mercy Lord revealedB
Make them to forget the dreadC
Fields of dying and the deadC
-
-
Let them go unhaunted LordD
By the sights that they have seenE
Guard their dreams from shell and swordD
Lead them by the pastures greenE
That they wander all night longF
In the fields where they were youngG
-
-
Grant no charnel horrors slipH
'Twixt them and their child's soft faceI
Breast to breast and lip to lipH
Let the lovers meet embraceI
Be they innocent of allJ
Memories that affright appalJ
-
-
Let their ears love music stillJ
And their eyes rejoice to seeK
Glory on the sea and hillJ
Beauty in the flower and treeK
Drop a veil that none may raiseL
Over dreadful nights and daysL
