OH what is Christ that we should call on HimB
Wasted Armenia in her utter woeC
Dies in the mocking desert calling soC
Hy nas tear her children limb from limbB
The clouds soft dimpled once with cherubimB
Now screen the flight of Lucifers that strowC
Their fiery seed where clustered households knowC
'Twixt sleep and death one flaring interimB
Of agony brief as the broken prayerD
What prayer What Christ Himself He could not saveE
From first to last when hath He saved His ownF
Stephen's young body battered stone by stoneF
Edith Cavell in her most holy graveE
For His helpless host of martyrs witness bearD

Thought casts the challenge Faith must lift the gloveG
Most true it is Christ doth not save the fleshH
God's dreamy Nazarene caught in the meshH
Of ignorance and malice whitest doveG
Net ever snared took little care thereofG
Not His to plead with Pilate nor to threshH
Those priestly lies He died to live afreshH
Spirit not body not the Jew but LoveG
Love the one Light in which all lusters meetI
Ultimate miracle far goal of TimeB
Even to day when all seems lost they feelJ
Those nations that like hooded sorrows kneelJ
Their prayer's deep answer loathing war as crimeB
Longing to gather at Love's wounded feetI
