The First Bluebirds Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBDDAEFGHFGIEIFCH B

THE poor earth was so winter marredA
Harried by storm so longB
It seemed no spring could mend herC
No tardy sunshine renderC
Atonement for such wrongB
Snow after snow and gale and hailD
Gaunt trees encased in icy mailD
The glittering drifts so hardA
They took no traceE
Of scared wild feetF
No print of fox and hareG
Driven by dearthH
To forage for their meatF
Even in dooryard bareG
And frosty lawnI
Under the peril of the human raceE
And then one primrose dawnI
Sweet sweet O sweetF
And tender tenderC
The bluebirds woke the happy earthH
With songB
