The Conqueror Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDEDEFFGGHHIAJACE KKEELMNMOOEEPQRSRSTT

Not the Prussian the forswornA
By whose fury overborneA
Martyred Belgium you lieB
Bruised with all injuryC
Through your peace red paths he cloveD
Burning slaying making spoilE
Of your shining treasure troveD
Ancient wisdom beauty toilE
Drenching hearth and shrine and sodF
With the blood that cries to GodF
Futile all that savage forceG
Time in his aeonian courseG
Still shall clarion your fameH
Yours the triumph his the shameH
On your honor he made warI
But his guns have battered downA
Only forts InheritorJ
Of unparalleled renownA
Belgium your name shall beC
Brighter than ThermopylE
None could scorn you had you saidK
'Hopeless are the odds and dreadK
Will the fiery vengeance fallE
On our homes In vain we callE
For help that still delays We yield 'L
But unflinching from your fateM
Up you flung your slender shieldN
Bore the onset held the gateM
For the priceless hour and savedO
Liberty yourself enslavedO
No thrust down to serfdom stillE
Your unmasterable willE
Your high fortitude and faithP
Outwear exile anguish deathQ
On his strip of coast your kingR
Holds your glorious flag unfurledS
Your great priest unfalteringR
Peals the truth across the worldS
With your neck beneath the swordT
You are victor you are lordT
