| Wild carrot lifts its circles of white lace | A |
| From vines whose interwoven branches drape | B |
| The old stone walls come pungent scents of grape | B |
| The sumach torches burn the hardhack glows | C |
| From off the pines a healing fragrance blows | C |
| The pallid Indian pipe of ghostly kin | D |
| Listens in vain for stealthy moccasin | D |
| In pensive mood a faded robin sings | E |
| A butterfly with dusky gold flecked wings | E |
| Holds court for plumy dandelion seed | F |
| And thistledown on throne of fireweed | F |
| The road goes loitering on till it hath missed | G |
| Its way in goldenrod to keep a tryst | G |
| Beyond the mosses and the ferns that veil | H |
| The last faint lines of its forgotten trail | H |
| With Lonely Lake so crystal clear that one | I |
| May see its bottom sparkling in the sun | I |
| With many colored stones The only stir | J |
| On its green banks is of the kingfisher | J |
| Dipping for prey but oft these haunted nights | K |
| That mirror shivers into dazzling lights | K |
| Cleft by a falling star a messenger | J |
| From some bright battle lost Excalibur | J |
