His Bit Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDCECEFGFH

GALLANTLY swung the old carpenter up to his doorA
Drums and fifes in his treadB
But softly he crossed the braided mats on the floorA
Gently he stroked her headB
'More folks were there at the station than ever I knewC
Bidding the lad good byD
Here's a daisy he picked at the platform's edge for youC
Kissing it on the slyD
'He'll do his part our boy on the fighting line'C
She caught the flower to her lipsE
'And you with your knitting and I have signed up for mineC
Work on the wooden shipsE
'Oh but it's hard to be old when the bugles callF
Yet I hav'n't lost my chanceG
I'll be in the shipyard the day the first trees fallF
Before the boy's in France 'H
