Glory Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

At the crowded gangway they kissed good byeA
He had half a mind to scold herB
An officer's mother and not keep dryA
The epaulet on his shoulderB
-
He had forgotten mother and fameC
His mind in a blood mist floatedD
But when reeling back from carnage they cameC
One told him You are promotedD
-
His friend smiled up from the wet red sandE
The look was afar eternalF
But he tried to salute with his shattered handE
Room now for another colonelF
-
Again he raged in that lurid hellG
Where the country he loved had thrown himH
You are promoted shrieked a shellG
His mother would not have known himH
