Eavesdropping Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHHHIJIJ

THOUGH the winds but stir on their hoary thronesA
Of hemlock and pungent pineB
All the whispering woodland tonesA
Gossip of things divineB
Why God is gray in the granite rockC
And green in the lichen flakeD
And swift in the darting swallow flockC
And slow in the lapping lakeD
Why God is sweet in the hermit thrushE
And hoarse in the frog and whyF
His touch on the bee is golden plushE
And gauze on the stinging flyF
Why God is life in the mushroom thereG
And death in the toadstool hereH
Mirth in the dancing maidenhairH
In its hidden adder fearH
Oh if this berry that stains my lipI
Could teach me the woodland chatJ
Science would bow to my scholarshipI
And Theology doff the hatJ
