The Burial Of The Linnet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD AEAE FGFG ABAB

Found in the garden dead in his beautyA
Ah that a linnet should die in the springB
Bury him comrades in pitiful dutyA
Muffle the dinner bell solemnly ringB
-
Bury him kindly up in the cornerC
Bird beast and gold fish are sepulchred thereD
Bid the black kitten march as chief mournerC
Waving her tail like a plume in the airD
-
Bury him nobly next to the donkeyA
Fetch the old banner and wave it aboutE
Bury him deeply think of the monkeyA
Shallow his grave and the dogs got him outE
-
Bury him softly white wool around himF
Kiss his poor feathers the first kiss and lastG
Tell his poor widow kind friends have found himF
Plant his poor grave with whatever grows fastG
-
Farewell sweet singer dead in thy beautyA
Silent through summer though other birds singB
Bury him comrades in pitiful dutyA
Muffle the dinner bell mournfully ringB
