Living In The Body Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEEFG HIJIIFFK LMNFNNAO

Body is something you need in order to stayA
on this planet and you only get oneB
And no matter which one you get it will notC
be satisfactory It will not be beautifulD
enough it will not be fast enough it willE
not keep on for days at a time but willE
pull you down into a sleepy swamp andF
demand apples and coffee and chocolate cakeG
-
Body is a thing you have to carryH
from one day into the next Always theI
same eyebrows over the same eyes in the sameJ
skin when you look in the mirror and theI
same creaky knee when you get up from theI
floor and the same wrist under the watchbandF
The changes you can make are small andF
costly better to leave it as it isK
-
Body is a thing that you have to leaveL
eventually You know that because you haveM
seen others do it others who were once like youN
living inside their pile of bones andF
flesh smiling at you loving youN
leaning in the doorway talking to youN
for hours and then one day theyA
are gone No forwarding addressO
