To My Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDCDCD

Gentlest of critics does your memory holdA
I know it does a record of the daysB
When I a schoolboy earned your generous praiseB
For halting verse and stories crudely toldA
Over these childish scrawls the years have rolledA
They might not know the world's unfriendly gazeB
But still your smile shines down familiar waysB
Touches my words and turns their dross to goldA
-
More dear to day than in that vanished timeC
Comes your nigh praise to make me proud and strongD
In my poor notes you hear Love's splendid chimeC
So unto you does this my work belongD
Take then a little gift of fragile rhymeC
Your heart will change it to authentic songD
