To A Young Poet Who Killed Himself Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH CICIJBJB KHKHLMLM

When you had played with life a spaceA
And made it drink and lust and singB
You flung it back into God's faceA
And thought you did a noble thingB
Lo I have lived and loved you saidC
And sung to fools too dull to hear meD
Now for a cool and grassy bedC
With violets in blossom near meD
-
Well rest is good for weary feetE
Although they ran for no great prizeF
And violets are very sweetE
Although their roots are in your eyesF
But hark to what the earthworms sayG
Who share with you your muddy havenH
The fight was on you ran awayG
You are a coward and a cravenH
-
The rug is ruined where you bledC
It was a dirty way to dieI
To put a bullet through your headC
And make a silly woman cryI
You could not vex the merry starsJ
Nor make them heed you dead or livingB
Not all your puny anger marsJ
God's irresistible forgivingB
-
Yes God forgives and men forgetK
And you're forgiven and forgottenH
You might be gaily sinning yetK
And quick and fresh instead of rottenH
And when you think of love and fameL
And all that might have come to passM
Then don't you feel a little shameL
And don't you think you were an assM
