The Ballade Of Butterflies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBC ABABBBBB ABABBBBBDBBBB

Because we never build a nestA
And no one of us ever singsB
We are the butt of every jestA
That strutting loud mouthed robin flingsB
Unless the field with laughter ringsB
And we are meek in our repliesC
His claws and beak to bear he bringsB
Have pity on all butterfliesC
-
Since we are of no home possessedA
And have no joy in courts and kingsB
And love on working days to restA
The name of 'Idlers' to us clingsB
On all our gypsy travellingsB
They follow us with jeering criesB
From every rose a spider springsB
Have pity on all butterfliesB
-
A little thing is our requestA
Some peace from nets of sticks and stringsB
An hour to feel the sunlight's zestA
To 'scape the deadly bee that stingsB
From hostile fortune's bolts and slingsB
Give us release ere Summer diesB
We dread the Winter's threateningsB
Have pity on all butterfliesB
L'ENVOID
Great Pan kind lord of living thingsB
Look on us now with friendly eyesB
We pray to you on trembling wingsB
Have pity on all butterfliesB
