The Apartment House Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDCDCD

Severe against the pleasant arc of skyA
The great stone box is cruelly displayedB
The street becomes more dreary from its shadeB
And vagrant breezes touch its walls and dieA
Here sullen convicts in their chains might lieA
Or slaves toil dumbly at some dreary tradeB
How worse than folly is their labor madeB
Who cleft the rocks that this might rise on highA
-
Yet as I look I see a woman's faceC
Gleam from a window far above the streetD
This is a house of homes a sacred placeC
By human passion made divinely sweetD
How all the building thrills with sudden graceC
Beneath the magic of Love's golden feetD
