In a wood they call the Rouge Bouquet	A
There is a new made grave to day	A
Built by never a spade nor pick	B
Yet covered with earth ten metres thick	B
There lie many fighting men	C
Dead in their youthful prime	D
Never to laugh nor love again	C
Nor taste the Summertime	D
For Death came flying through the air	E
And stopped his flight at the dugout stair	E
Touched his prey and left them there	E
Clay to clay	A
He hid their bodies stealthily	A
In the soil of the land they fought to free	F
And fled away	A
Now over the grave abrupt and clear	G
Three volleys ring	H
And perhaps their brave young spirits hear	I
The bugle sing	H

Slumber well where the shell screamed and fell	A
Let your rifles rest on the muddy floor	K
You will not need them any more	K
Danger's past	L
Now at last	L

To hold the bodies of the brave	M
Than this place of pain and pride	N
Where they nobly fought and nobly died	N
Never fear but in the skies	O
Saints and angels stand	P
Smiling with their holy eyes	O
On this new come band	P
St Michael's sword darts through the air	E
And touches the aureole on his hair	E
As he sees them stand saluting there	E
His stalwart sons	Q
And Patrick Brigid Columkill	A
Rejoice that in veins of warriors still	A
The Gael's blood runs	Q
And up to Heaven's doorway floats	R
From the wood called Rouge Bouquet	A
A delicate cloud of buglenotes	R
That softly say	R
Farewell	A

Comrades true born anew peace to you	S
Your souls shall be where the heroes are	T
And your memory shine like the morning star	T
