Mid-ocean In War-time Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCBBCCB DEDEDE

For My MotherA
-
-
The fragile splendour of the level seaB
The moon's serene and silver veiled faceC
Make of this vessel an enchanted placeC
Full of white mirth and golden sorceryB
Now for a time shall careless laughter beB
Blended with song to lend song sweeter graceC
And the old stars in their unending raceC
Shall heed and envy young humanityB
-
And yet to night a hundred leagues awayD
These waters blush a strange and awful redE
Before the moon a cloud obscenely greyD
Rises from decks that crash with flying leadE
And these stars smile their immemorial wayD
On waves that shroud a thousand newly deadE
