For Richardson Little WrightA
-
-
There was a gentle hostlerB
And blessed be his nameC
He opened up the stableD
The night Our Lady cameC
Our Lady and Saint JosephE
He gave them food and bedF
And Jesus Christ has given himG
A glory round his headF
-
So let the gate swing openH
However poor the yardI
Lest weary people visit youJ
And find their passage barredI
Unlatch the door at midnightA
And let your lantern's glowK
Shine out to guide the traveler's feetL
To you across the snowK
-
There was a courteous hostlerB
He is in Heaven to nightA
He held Our Lady's bridleD
And helped her to alightA
He spread clean straw before herB
Whereon she might lie downM
And Jesus Christ has given himG
An everlasting crownM
-
Unlock the door this eveningN
And let your gate swing wideO
Let all who ask for shelterB
Come speedily insideO
What if your yard be narrowK
What if your house be smallP
There is a Guest is comingN
Will glorify it allP
-
There was a joyous hostlerB
Who knelt on Christmas mornQ
Beside the radiant mangerB
Wherein his Lord was bornQ
His heart was full of laughterB
His soul was full of blissR
When Jesus on His Mother's lapS
Gave him His hand to kissR
-
Unbar your heart this eveningN
And keep no stranger outT
Take from your soul's great portalD
The barrier of doubtT
To humble folk and wearyU
Give hearty welcomingN
Your breast shall be to morrowK
The cradle of a KingN
