In memory of Joseph Mary PlunkettA
-
Romantic Ireland's dead and goneB
It's with O'Leary in the graveC
William Butler YeatsD
-
-
Romantic Ireland's dead and goneB
It's with O'Leary in the graveC
Then Yeats what gave that Easter dawnB
A hue so radiantly braveC
-
There was a rain of blood that dayE
Red rain in gay blue April weatherF
It blessed the earth till it gave birthG
To valour thick as blooms of heatherF
-
Romantic Ireland never diesH
O'Leary lies in fertile groundI
And songs and spears throughout the yearsJ
Rise up where patriot graves are foundI
-
Immortal patriots newly deadK
And ye that bled in bygone yearsJ
What banners rise before your eyesH
What is the tune that greets your earsJ
-
The young Republic's banners smileL
For many a mile where troops conveneM
O'Connell Street is loudly sweetN
With strains of Wearing of the GreenM
-
The soil of Ireland throbs and glowsO
With life that knows the hour is hereP
To strike again like IrishmenM
For that which Irishmen hold dearQ
-
Lord Edward leaves his resting placeR
And Sarsfield's face is glad and fierceS
See Emmet leap from troubled sleepT
To grasp the hand of Padraic PearseU
-
There is no rope can strangle songV
And not for long death takes his tollW
No prison bars can dim the starsX
Nor quicklime eat the living soulW
-
Romantic Ireland is not oldY
For years untold her youth will shineM
Her heart is fed on Heavenly breadK
The blood of martyrs is her wineM
