The Vision Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEB FGFGFG HIJIHK FAFAFA LMLMLG NOPONO QRQRQRI SAW but once that lovely one | A |
Nor need I see her twice to love | B |
She broke upon me like the dawn | C |
And o'er my soul her magic wove | D |
Yea forced the lion stern to own | E |
Himself the captive of the dove | B |
- | |
She brought the morn she left the night | F |
Nor strove I to throw off the chain | G |
But rather felt a sweet delight | F |
To intermingle with the pain | G |
That made my heart's repose a blight | F |
Till madness ruled my thought's domain | G |
- | |
By night I sought a solitude | H |
And gave unto the winds a grief | I |
That struggled like the lava flood | J |
That boils and struggles for relief | I |
And night still left me in a mood | H |
Unto the voice of reason deaf | K |
- | |
The radiant planets in their flight | F |
And she the quiet Queen of heaven | A |
With glory garmented the night | F |
But not to them the power was given | A |
To kill but rather nurse the blight | F |
By which afar my peace was driven | A |
- | |
Yet wished I not the sun to rise | L |
For then the world were up and then | M |
Were I exposed to wistful eyes | L |
And questions bold of forward men | M |
Who deem themselves both good and wise | L |
Yet neither know nor pity pain | G |
- | |
And what on earth ay what in hell | N |
Can be more racking to the thought | O |
Than that our pangs unspeakable | P |
Should disregarded be as nought | O |
Or look's upon with looks that tell | N |
In vain would sympathy be sought | O |
- | |
The magic vision fled and so | Q |
Have all those precious feelings all | R |
Which gave to life a golden glow | Q |
Which made a joy this earthly ball | R |
And now what's left to me what oh | Q |
What but a cup of very gall | R |
